Apple iOS7, Beta4, Authenticates Finger-Print Biometrics for New iPhone 5S ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

๐ŸŽ Apple iOS7, Beta4, Authenticates Finger-Print Biometrics for New iPhone 5S. Many of us have been hearing about a biometric fingerprint authentication, and the requisite sensors to be incorporated into the iPhone for many months. Apple eventually has to sacrifice product secrecy, as the product’s delivery becomes eminent.

๐ŸŽ In the Documentation regarding the latest 4th Beta version of iOS 7, released today, Apple included code for the Biometric Kit user interface. This iOS software code provides the instruction-sets that enables the scanning of one’s fingerprint on the Home button, that Apple has included in a prominent location on all iPhones.

๐ŸŽ Some of the user interface “strings,” (portions of text that are used in an application) include language that suggests a primer or instruction manual for usage: “Photo of a person holding an iPhone with their right hand while touching the Home button with their thumb,” is one, while another says “Recognition is x% complete,” and another says “A fingerprint that changes color during the setup process.”

๐ŸŽ Apple messages into iOS 7 beta 4, it sounds like the thumb-print biometric authentication is the method Apple will be utilized for unlocking iPhones, as well as authenticating purchases or contracts, or other kinds of identification protocols that may be imagined by Apple’s App Developers.

New iPad-mini versions may also be slated for Cryptographic BioMetric Finger Print capability, Retina Display 2048-by-1536 resolution at 324ppi, Apple’s dual-core A6X processor, and 8MP Camera.

1⃣ The 2nd generation iPad-mini rumor-mill has gathered significantly over the past few weeks; and reported a few days ago suggested that the iPad-mini v2 release date could be as soon as July, 2013. The increased rumors and attention may be warranted.

2⃣ iPad-mini v2 may have BioMetric Finger Print capability creating secure Cryptographic Libraries to secure Personal Information, making way for the best "Tablet" security consistent with Apple’s new iPhone 5S which may also have similar cryptographic security.

3⃣ Apple’s purchase of AuthenTec in 2012 may soon play a major part for new iPad and iPhone innovations. It was a shrewd move that CEO Tim Cook made that has been largely unnoticed. This technology provides Apple with a very Unique New Security feature designed to virtually eliminate passwords. BTW, AuthenTec was a major supplier to enterprises such as Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Fujitsu, HBO, HP, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sky, and Texas Instruments.

4⃣ Nothing confirmed at this point, but "leaked" photos of redesigned internal components suggest that Apple may be planning an overhaul of the iPhone and iPad’s internal geography to improve various features and to likely make room for new components as well, namely the Finger-Print Scanner and its related digitizing processors.

5⃣ Apple’s iPad-mini v2 is widely expected to feature the same (or very similar) external design as the iPad mini. Aside from the iPad-mini external shape and edges change, the iPad-mini v2 may feature a significant internal redesign when it launches this fall.

6⃣ BioMetrics and Finger Print identification are very cool concepts. However, there is a Huge amount of science that has to be packed into a very small place for "Positive-Identification" that is both consistent and assured, in the creation of Secure Cryptographic Libraries.

๐Ÿ”ข The graphics were abstracted from reports discussing the mathematics and logistics necessary to accurately refine and focus on your Unique Finger Print. This process sounds really cool, but there are tens-of-thousands of man-hours creating the complex process algorithyms necessary to assure very high quality security, to the order of tens-of-millions of combinations, the equivalent of an 8-digit password.

๐Ÿ”ข It is our Guess that all iPads, iPad-minis, iPhones, and likely MAC Books will eventually contain BioMetrics, Finger Print, Secure Cryptographic identification scanning capabilities, giving a very high level of security, exceeding the secuity offered by a random 8 digit password.

7⃣ Having personally supervised the installation very sophisticated "Finger Print and Palm Print" identification systems costing on average $250,000, to secure commercial office buildings, the user set-up is quite simple. A user that has been permitted access, simply initially swipes all 10 fingers, three to five swipes for each finger; This assures the system to record accurate, reliable, digitized images, creating a secure Cryptographic Library for this user.

๐Ÿ”ข Cryptographic Library creation. Once the iPhone owner swipes all 10 fingers enters, and enters an 8 digit password, the owner is registered to UnLock the device by either Swiping a Finger or entering the Password. The PassWord may be used in the event this user has damaged, dirty, wet, cut, or bruised their fingers causing the system to reject finger-print cryptographic access. What goes on internally, "behind the scenes" is amazing; The notion that this technology can be squeezed into iPhones and iPads, using an iPhone cryptographic-enabled HOME button, covered with a Sapphire-Crystal-Lens for best finger-image transmission, through to a CCD imager for digitizing, boggles the mind.

Apple is expected to debut a new iPhone, iPad and iPad mini tablet in the 2nd half of 2013. Previous rumors have suggested that the company’s popular 7.9" tablet would have a variety of improvements over the previous model. According to MobiLeaks, the second-generation iPad mini may be equipped with a number of improvements.

7⃣ iPad Mini v2 may have the Retina display with 2048 x 1536 resolution that equates to 324 pixels per inch. Having this quantity of pixels (the same pixel count as in the iPad v4 with its 9.7" display) squeezed into a mini 7.9" diagonal display, will render a very, very high resolution appearing image, nearly the same (324ppi vs. 326ppi) pixel-density as we are experiencing in the present day iPhone 5 display.

8⃣ iPad Mini v2 may feature Apple’s dual-core A6X processor, similar processor housed in the iPad v4.

9⃣ iPad Mini v2 may feature an improved Cameras, reportedly to be upgraded with an 8-megapixel sensor on the rear-camera and a 2-megapixel sensor on the front-camera. This apparently may be the same Camera and lens components that exists within the iPhone 5. Storage options also the same as with the iPhone 5: 16BG as standard, or 32GB, or 64GB as additional cost options.

๐Ÿ”Ÿ iPad Mini v2 may have a marginal thickness increase from 7.2mm to 7.5mm. This very, very small increase is hardly worth mentioning, as 0.3mm represents the thickness of the diameters of 3 or 4 human hairs, each measuring on average 0.100mm (which roughly equates to 0.004"). This small change may be attributed to more robust aluminium anodization surface layers.

๐Ÿ”ข iPad Mini v2 may have AuthenTec capabilities built-in (AuthenTec is a leading provider of mobile and network security, whose diverse product and technology offering) helps protect individuals and organizations through secure networking, content and data protection, access control and strong fingerprint security. AuthenTec encryption technology, fingerprint sensors and identity management software are deployed by the leading mobile device, networking and computing companies, content and service providers, and Governments worldwide. AuthenTec’s products and technologies provide security on hundreds of millions of devices.

๐Ÿ”ข iPad Mini v2 is expected to be release by Apple sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2013.

๐Ÿ”ข iPad Mini v2. Personally, I will be at Boca Raton’s Apple Store, waiting on the line, for this one!

Apple Delivers Greater Market Share for Quarter ending June, 2013 ~ Android is Loosing Share ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ

๐ŸŽ Apple Delivers Greater Market Share for Quarter ending June, 2013 ~ Android is Loosing Share. These figures are delightful for Apple as it gained +3.3% for the quarter ending in June as compared to the June quarter in 2012. Android on the other hand has begun a loss in share, down -1.1% and BlackBerry down -2.9%, for a total of negative 4.0% combined loss in market share for Android+BlackBerry. Extrapolating this further, it appears that Apple’s iPhone picked up most of its 3.3% gain in market share from the 4.0% combined lost of BlackBerry and Android.

๐ŸŽ AT&T is selling iPhones to 62.9% of its customers. AT&T’s retail efforts have been very helpful in Apple’s iPhone market penetration as for the June 2013 quarter AT&T increased its iPhone sales. AT&T is now selling the iPhone to 62.9% of all their Mobile Phone, an increase of +5.9%. Similarly, AT&T is only selling Android phones to 30.1% of its customers, representing a decrease of -5.7% of Android’s share at AT&T stores.

๐ŸŽ Android’s Major problem, Google dropping Android, as its has a huge issue with Carriers using differing versions of the OS. The Android OS also has some significant financial liabilities with some of the “code” and “patent” infringement issues. Because of this Google is throwing in the Towel on Android for all of their Google Smart Phones.

๐ŸŽ Samsung also dropping Android from its smart phones too for a variety of other issues, mostly because over 50% of their existing Galaxy customers are trapped at lower versions of Android, for fear of their device “locking up” or loosing some of their favorite Apps, and Carrier fracturing.

๐ŸŽ In Sum, a Shake Up is Coming. The Smart Phone market is going to be shaken up quite a bit with both Samsung and Google dumping Android. As a result Apple’s iOS stable environment carefully maintained, will pay-off hugely, as folks flock to the iPhone. Granted the high technology of the smart phones is very important; however, like with the PC Computer industry, its all about the Operating System and the Software Apps.

๐ŸŽ Windows literally owned the PC operating system business, having over 85% market-share for decades. Today Windows OS8 is only being adopted by less than 10% of its installed user base, because its too cumbersome, slow, and Older Apps wont operate on it … Sounds familiar with the Android issues… fracturing.

๐ŸŽ Apple’s Solution. Come to the rescue for all those PC customers, with the iPad. Presently the iPad has a Small and Medium sizes. Soon the iPad will have a Large version. Apple providing Display sizes of 7.9″ 9.7″ and 12.9″ most of the Windows PC and Laptop users are covered. (The 12.9″ larger iPad rumored to be in the works)

๐ŸŽ iPad is “The Post PC” Choice, Combine:

1⃣ Three modern Hi Res Display sizes,

2⃣ Enhanced Processing & Memory Capabilities,

3⃣ World-wide Connectivity,

4⃣ Long Battery life,

5⃣ Very Nimble and stable iOS, plus a

6⃣ Huge array of incredible Apps… This all Adds-up to be

7⃣ The Destination for tens-of-millions of PC users will flock to, rather than spend money on any more Windows based PC. Apple called this phenomenon several years ago “The Post PC Era.” Apple is correct, PC sales globally is down about -10%.

๐ŸŽ The “Propeller Heads” have been whining about Apple’s iOS being too “Closed and Controlled” environment… Well, what’s going on with Android is the very reason Apple maintains an important “code” and “operability” control over its iOS and their APi drivers. This structure is good for everyone, the Users, the Carriers, and the App Developers.

๐ŸŽ Apple has over 93% of the 500 million iPhone users on iOS6, quickly upgrading to new iOS versions without fear of loosing operability of their iPhones or their Apps; the balance of the folks (the 7%) likely have 5 and 6 year old iPhones that are already past retirement-age and functionally obsolete, as the hardware does not have the capacity to take on iOS6. Even with the iPhone, functional obsolescence is inevitable, as technology continues to improve exponentially.

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” from the big Investment Banking Houses, many of which just passed puberty, albeit with advanced degrees, had the iPhone and a Apple “Dead in the Water” “over the hill, utility stock.”

๐ŸŽAlmost all the “Analysis” concluded that SmartPhone Sales have “Peaked” as everyone that wanted a smart phone already bought one, and the only thing left would be very marginal changes in carriers.

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” missed the point, because the iPhone 5 continues to Grow in Sales by exceeding “analyst expectations by 20%.

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” predicted 25.5 million sales for the Quarter, however, actual iPhone Sales were in reality about 31.5 million units.

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” predicted that the iPhone had “Peaked.”

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” predicted that the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S would be the large majority of the iPhone sales because they are lower priced. Not true as over half the iPhone sales and growth came from the sales of the iPhone 5.

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” said that Apple’s franchise products center on devices that rest in saturated (“the iPhone has Peaked”) markets for high-end smartphones. The facts are unit sales and Apple’s 93% to 95% loyalty rate among iPhone customers look like a strong and healthy franchise.

๐ŸŽ Almost all the “Analysis” spoke of Apple’s inability to profit at lower prices. The facts are iPhone’s average selling price fell significantly to $580, down $32/unit in the this Q3 alone; and yet, Apple’s gross margin was near the 37% it placed at the high-end of the quarter’s guidance.

๐ŸŽ iPhone pricing continue to trend downward with the lower-priced iPhone expected in September.

๐ŸŽ Apple iPhone unit sales are likely to trend up in the event that new products materialize. The reason should be clear by now.

๐ŸŽ Given a more level playing field as to pricing with Android competition, many people will migrate iPhone, as their contracts expire. In fact, 51% of Verizon smartphone customers did just that this past quarter, activated iPhones, and those Activations was a 41% increase over the previous period, despite the launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy S4.

๐ŸŽ Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, last year’s iPhone models, are each out-selling Samsung’s new Galaxy S4. Therefore the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 4 are each individually out-selling Samsung’s Galaxy S4.

๐ŸŽ Apple’s CFO Peter Oppenheimer and CEO Tim Cook both mentioned that Apple “is on tract to have a very busy Fall.” What could this reasonably mean. From reading all the “reports” from component suppliers, there are 5 likely new Products including a New Operating System, to come to market this year.

๐ŸŽ This list is what may cause Apple to have a Very Busy Fall:

๐Ÿ“ฑ New iPhone 5S,

๐Ÿ“ฑ Entry Level iPhone 5

๐Ÿ“ฑ New iPad, version 5

๐Ÿ“ฑ New iPad mini, with Retina Display

๐Ÿ“ฑ New Operating System iOS7
, this upload-able software upgrade is really a Big Thing, as it Improves the User Experience immediately for over 500 million iDevices. This is like getting a New Device, as this iOS7 upgrade is a massive improvement in both “look and feel.”

๐ŸŽ What will likely not appear this year: (A) no iPhone with a 5″ Display, (B) no iWatch, (C) no iTV, at least not yet.

Designs can be Copied; However, Excellence and Discipline cannot.

๐ŸŽ In July of 2012, shares of Apple were trading in the low US $600 range and were about to embark on a rather sudden ascent to $700. The party, however, didn’t last long as Apple shares quickly began a steady decline, hitting a 52-week low of $390 this past April.

๐ŸŽ In an effort to explain why Apple stock was falling so precipitously, we were treated to a host of analysts and talking heads who were quick to proclaim that Apple had peaked and that it had, seemingly overnight, lost the ability to innovate.

๐ŸŽ Verizon today announced its earnings for Q2 2013. As expected, the carrier reported strong results with $5.2 billion in profit and $29.79 billion in revenue. Verizon added 1 million new customers and now has 100.1 million retail connections.

๐ŸŽ Verizon confirmed it activated 7.5 M smartphones, 51% of which were iPhones. This brings Verizon’s quarterly iPhone activations to approximately 3.87 million units, which is up from the 2.7 million it activated in the same quarter last year. This represnts a 143% increase in iPhone activations YoY. It is right on par with the 4 million activations it reported in the opening quarter of 2013. Recall it was not until later in 2010 that AT&T’s iPhone exclusivity expired, which let Verizon join the party.

๐ŸŽ An oft-heard refrain, absurd as it may be, was that everyone who wants an iPhone already has one and that Apple would face many challenges trying to sell more iPhones in an increasingly crowded marketplace. The absurdity is that (A) there is a stampeed of "Non-Smart Phone" owners (presently 40% of the cellular customers use "dumb-phones in the USA) that moving to Smart Phones, and (B) there are 26% of the Android Users that are migrating to iPhone very month, as their contracts expire.

๐ŸŽ But then a funny thing happened. Last week, Verizon reported its earnings results from Q2 2013 and the results were better than what most analysts were expecting. Last quarter, Verizon activated 7.5 million smartphones, of which 3.8 million units were iPhones. Put differently, nearly 51% of all smartphones Verizon activated last quarter were iPhones.

๐ŸŽ That’s pretty impressive, but the folks on Wall St. don’t care so much about product share as they do about overall growth. To that end, the 3.8 million iPhones Verizon activated this past quarter far eclipsed the 2.7 million units it sold during Q2 of 2012. Year over year, iPhone activations on Verizon grew by 40.7%.

๐ŸŽ And yet, somehow, that little tidbit was inexplicably glossed over by those who are so quick to paint a doom-and-gloom scenario for Apple based upon some sketchily sourced second-hand rumor about iPhone production emanating out of a manufacturing plant in Asia.

๐ŸŽ Apple is set to announce its earnings for the quarter gone Today, at 5pm eastern, and it remains to be seen how iPhone sales will measure up to the year-ago quarter. Indeed, many analysts are predicting that Apple’s year-over-year growth will be somewhat stagnant in that regard. And that may very well be the case.

๐ŸŽ After all, Verizon is just a single carrier and its recent results many not be representative of iPhone activations across all carriers.

๐ŸŽ I’m more positive, as Verizon was late to the iPhone Party, as were their sales associates, selling Android and BB almost exclusively. So here we are only several years later and Verizon is now selling More iPhones, than all the other phones combined, in the stores. IB Analysts not recognizing these facts is amazing to me.

๐ŸŽ BTW, I am not an Apple stakeholder so my opinions are not economically skewed.

๐ŸŽ That notwithstanding, it’d be nice if the investment banking analysts who get paid to keep up with Apple products, profits, pace, and the industry, paid as much attention to potentially good news as they do to potentially alarming news.

๐ŸŽ In Business as in Sports, everyone "hates" the Winner, and seems to cheer-on the under-dogs. IMHO, Apple IS actually Better, it delivers Better Products in every product category, and therefore should do Better business-wise.

However, the "Line to Stardom is Not a Straight Line UP."

Apple News or Not. Senior VP Bob Mansfield missing from Apple’s Executive Profiles page ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

Apple News or Not. Senior VP Bob Mansfield missing from Apple’s Executive Profiles page. http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/

๐ŸŽ July, 28, 2013. This could mean nothing, but it could mean everything. As of July 27th, Bob Mansfield was The Senior Vice President at Apple, Inc., one of the world’s most iconic technology firms. As of Today, his leadership bio is nowhere to be found on Apple’s official web presence, Apple Executive Profiles page.

๐ŸŽ You may recall, Mansfield has had an interesting couple of years at Apple. In June of 2012, he abruptly announced that he was retiring. A couple of weeks later, he publicly addressed mounting criticism regarding Apple’s computers and their relationship with EPEAT. A number of weeks later, Mansfield actually got a promotion, with his responsibilities growing once again during the executive shakeup of October 2012.

๐ŸŽ It’s unclear if someone accidentally deleted the profile, or is updating the profile, of one of Apple’s most important figureheads, or if Mr. Mansfield truly has stepped aside, but we will find out.

๐ŸŽ Senior Apple vice president Bob Mansfield has silently disappeared from the company’s website, leading many to wonder about the future of one of the company’s most visible executives. The news was first reported by MacRumors, which noted that Mansfield’s entry was gone both from Apple’s PR site, his name also disappearing from the organizational chart. According to early reports, Mansfield is no longer on the company’s executive team, but will remain at Apple to work on special projects, reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook.

๐ŸŽ After briefly retiring a year ago, he returned two months later, eventually heading a new division within the company focused on semiconductor and wireless hardware. As for which projects Mansfield might be tackling in his more hands-on role at the company, the New York Times recently reported that he is "engrossed" with wearable technologies like the Nike FuelBand and Jawbone Up in the context of Apple’s long-rumored smart watch plans.

๐ŸŽ In the event is representative of Mansfield’s exit from the company, would be an important enough change in Apple Management, to trigger a "public disclosure" which would likely be forthcoming Monday July, 29, 2013 as there are over 900 million shares of Apple out there, not to mention SEC regulations.

๐ŸŽ http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/

๐ŸŽ June 28, 2012. Mansfield is credited with leading the Mac engineering team since 2005 and took on a more visible role as an exec during the reshuffling in 2008. He’s also mentioned as leading iPhone and iPod engineering since 2010 (when he took over the role from Mark Papermaster in a move curiously timed around those antenna troubles) and the iPad since it began.

๐ŸŽ Mansfield has been with Apple since 1999 when it acquired his previous employer, Raycer Graphics, and most recently popped up on our radar earlier this year while integrating another acquisition, flash memory maker Anobit. If you’d like to get familiar with his replacement, Dan Riccio is currently vice president of iPad hardware engineering. Check the press release after the break for a few more details on both individuals, there’s no word on Mansfield’s post-retirement plans.

๐ŸŽ August 27, 2012. It’s a day of upheaval in the boardroom at Apple – in the good sense. Remember how Hardware Engineering Senior VP Bob Mansfield said he would retire in June? He’s had a change of heart and will keep working on future products. Meanwhile, two of the vice presidents who’ve been mainstays of Apple’s recent plans, Mac Software Engineering VP Craig Federighi and Hardware Engineering VP Dan Riccio, have been promoted to Senior VP.

๐ŸŽ All three will report directly to CEO Tim Cook, and both Federighi as well as Riccio will get their first turns at Apple’s executive management team. While the shift isn’t going to signal a dramatic change in strategy, it’s notable that Riccio’s role is expanding: he’s moving from his earlier iPad focus to overseeing all the hardware Apple makes. We can only guess at what the ultimate goals might be for the new assignments, although we can imagine Apple jumping through hoops to keep a hardware executive as skilled as Mansfield on its side.

๐ŸŽ October 29, 2012. Huge news out of Apple today, as its senior vice president of iOS software, Scott Forstall, will leave the company next year after putting in some 15 years. Furthermore, John Browett – head of Apple retail – is also on his way out. The memo was delivered late today, on a day that is littered with other news that the company may hope will bury the bulk of it – and, on a day where trading on the New York Stock Exchange is halted due to Hurricane Sandy.

๐ŸŽ It’s practically a given that Forstall is taking the brunt of the impact from its decision to forge ahead with an obviously subpar Maps application, all while trumpeting it as one of the pillars of iOS 6 during his keynote speech at WWDC 2012. The introduction of Siri as a beta product is also on Forstall, and we all know what happens to executives who flub something related to iPhone….

๐ŸŽ As the shakeup unfolds, Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield, Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi will add more responsibilities to their roles. In other words, Tim Cook isn’t about to usher in new help who may thwart the company’s efforts to continue at its breakneck pace.

๐ŸŽ Curiously, Mansfield will be heaping more on his own plate just months after he had originally planned to retire. As for Ive? He’ll be responsible for providing "leadership and direction for Human Interface (HI) across the company in addition to his role as the leader of Industrial Design."

๐ŸŽ Eddy Cue will be gifted burdened with Siri and Maps, while also keeping an eye on the iTunes Store, the App Store, the iBookstore and iCloud. Needless to say, he probably won’t be seeing too many walls outside of Cupertino for the foreseeable future.

๐ŸŽ Federighi is being tasked to lead both iOS and OS X, while Mansfield chairs a new Technologies group that bundles Apple’s wireless teams across the company. (Of note, Dan Riccio – who was scheduled to take over for Mansfield prior to his retirement retraction – isn’t among those who are gaining duties.)
