🍎 Word Lens is a very unique translation utility that (in real-time) views road-signs (for example) using your iPhone’s camera, then translates the road-sign into one of 6 languages that you can select. Languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, German, Italian, French.

🍎 Word Lens translates written words from one language to another. Point your camera at the words to translate. Touch the bar at the top of the screen to choose a language pair that you desire.

🍎 Tilt your iPhone or iPad so the words that you are reading are aligned, parallel to the top bar. Screen rotation can be locked/unlocked by pressing the button in the lower left.

🍎 Stop and start the video with the pause/play button at the bottom. In the paused mode, you can touch on a word to see the translation list. The translation list will show you similar-looking words along with alternate definitions in case there was difficulty reading the type-font or in translating the word.

🍎 Adjust the word spelling if it helps. You can also see the translation list by clicking the book-icon in the main camera screen on the bottom right. While paused, hold down the eye icon in the bottom left of the main screen to temporarily hide the translation overlay, revealing the plain camera view.

🍎 Use the zoom and flash light buttons (if they are available on your device) to improve your translation quality, if you are reading a menu item in a restaurant, for example. The zoom helps for reading small words up close when the camera has difficulty focusing. In low light conditions, use the flash light button to turn on and off the LED light.

🍎 BTW, Google recently bought the popular iOS and Android visual translation app Word Lens to “incorporate the technology into Google Translate’s broad language coverage” according to a statement on Quest Visual’s website.

As many of my friends, family and students know, I am an avid iPad adopter since its release April, 2010. With Apple’s release of the Retina-Display iPad Mini, (I sold my iPad 4 to Gazelle.com) applied the proceeds to purchase the "mini" with 128GB of Storage, AT&T connectivity, plus added Logitech’s UltraThin Keyboard Cover, and an ACME MADE San Francisco rubberized thin slip-over protective case. This thin package actually fits into my trousers pocket.
