🏉 FAU is 1 WIN away from bowl-eligibility, and on Friday at 3:05pm, FAU will host their rivals, FIU, a nationally-televised afternoon contest. No one could have written this story any better. The story is not so simple as a FAU victory. It seems that FAU’s 1st Bowl Entry, which it Win, has some "editorial influences" to gain entry to the New Orleans Bowl. And BTW we covered the NO BOWL Event, here is the Link to that 2007 match-up.

🏉 A FAU win over FIU is absolutely necessary for FAU on Friday. It could also be argued that, given the likely surplus of bowl-eligible teams this postseason, winning BIG is likely necessary as well, as it will strengthen FAU’s case that it should be chosen to play in a post-season game. If that means that FAU has to embarrass a rival in the process, so be it. FAU has been seeking pay-back for last Two season’s Shula Bowl losses. FAU Coach Wright left no room for interpretation on Monday, the Owls will not take the one-win Panthers lightly on Friday afternoon.

🏉 FIU’s record this year is 1-Win : 10-Losses. "We didn’t play very well a year ago, and that has left a bad taste in our mouth," Wright said. Wright went though the history of the Shula Bowl in the team’s Monday morning meeting, a history lesson that included a reminder of last year’s 34-24 home loss to the Panthers. In that game, FIU held the Owls to negative-12 yards rushing, spoiling a strong performance from quarterback Graham Wilbert.
🏉 "That FIU team came into our place last year with two wins and manhandled us," Wright said. "They really beat us in all aspects of the game a year ago, so just because [FIU] has one win [this year] doesn’t mean anything to us." Wright didn’t have to remind his players of last year’s game, senior tight end Nexon Dorvilus said Friday’s contest will be "real personal." The coach wanted to emphasize the importance of the rivalry game to the younger players on the team, in case the seniors had not talked to them already.
🏉 "We weren’t going to hide the fact that this is an important football game," Wright said. "But I told them the formula for success on Friday will be the same formula that we’ve executed for the last three weeks." Senior defensive end Martin Wright wore a t-shirt that read "unfinished business" to his Monday press conference, and he made no secret that part of that unfinished business was beating FIU.
🏉 "The last couple years, everybody took it as a personal game," the younger Wright said. "[The loss to FIU to last season] made us work harder [in the offseason]. We made sure we worked hard so we could come back this year so we could get that trophy back." While Brian Wright has only been at FAU for two years, but he said Monday he certainly viewed FAU and FIU as rivals. "Everywhere I go in the state, people always say ‘FIU or FAU?’ " he said. "You have to explain what the difference is. It is very much a rival to me." What is that difference? Wright nearly answered the question Monday, but he opted to bite his tongue instead, nothing would speak louder than a season-ending win on Friday.
🏉 Marilyn Wilson, born and raised in Miami, and an avid Dolphin’s fan, just had to spend some time with Don Shula before we got to work covering the FAU:FIU match-up held that year at Pro-Player Stadium.
🏉 FAU continued its surge toward bowl eligibility with Saturday’s 55-10 blowout of New Mexico St. The Owls have won three straight, the last two in dominating fashion, and now need only beat hapless FIU to enter bowl conversation. The News of Realism for the Owls, there are only 70 bowl slots and 70 teams are now bowl eligible. The good news is that bowl-bids are unlike bobble head giveaways, and winning a bowl-bid are are not necessarily limited to the first 70 Teams to pass through the gates.
🏉 Some more good news lies among two of the teams that have qualified: Texas-San Antonio and Colorado State UTSA is in its transitional period to full FBS play, so they can’t be selected above FAU, in the event FAU’s Owls become bowl-eligible, unless the Roadrunners successfully petition the NCAA. There doesn’t appear to be a reason to expect that to happen.
🏉 Colorado State has six wins but plays a 13 game schedule this season, so the Rams need seven victories to be taken ahead of a 6-6 FAU squad. Here’s a look at what went right, what went wrong, and who FAU should be rooting against in the coming weeks.
