I’m Jim Wilson, and have lived in Florida since 1973, was born in New York City, and am currently an adjunct Ffaculty at Florida Atlantic University, where I have been teaching principles of digital photography since 2003. I have written a book titled "Principles of Digital Photography and Post Image Processing" which was published in October, 2003 (with a 2nd edition 2007) by Pearson Education, Boston, an internationally recognized leader in educational publishing. This textbook is used in my classes.
I have been a professional photographer for the past 30 years; In 1995 I sold my Hasselblad and Nikon professional film cameras and lenses, and fully adopted digital photography, with the purchase of several Kodak/Canon joint venture digital cameras and lenses, a $75,000 equipment Kit. The image below was taken at a meeting in Phoenix AZ with Dr. Henry C Lee, well known forensics specialist, Robin Wilson Jones, established in forensic sciences particularly with processes, and at right, Jim Wilson.
As an early adopter of digital photography and with 3 decades of imaging experience, I have become very interested in the application of digital imaging technologies for the law enforcement community, including crime scene and evidence documentation, enhancement to support criminal investigation, and court room testimony.
The new book being developed is titled, "Principles of Forensic Digital Photography and Post Image Processing, Encryption and Authentication ," a comprehensive digital imaging reference for law enforcement, agency officials, crime lab directors, crime scene processors, officers of the court, and students of criminal justice. Development of this body of work will require careful examination of the technologies, available hardware, software, coupled with discipline-specific and environmental nuances in order to serve the target-markets effectively.
Although I have public financing experience, having been awarded Government Financing from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) through an EKU University Grant, I have chosen to avoid the complexity of "Public" financing, by pursuing this endeavor and financing by a Campaign with http://www.Indiegogo.com.
To best serve the law enforcement community, in their adoption of digital cameras and related evidence collection equipment, techniques, image development, image encryption, image storage and retrieval, this new book will not only serve practitioners in the field, it is expected to be incorporated into the curriculum within the 760 police academies nation-wide, in addition to criminal justice and forensic science undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Proceeds raised for this project will be deployed in support of visitation to a number of professional conferences and site visits to small, medium, and large jurisdictions to develop scalable solutions for digital imaging needs across the entire criminal justice continuum. Other operating expenses including equipment Kit assembly are included in the budget estimate.

As many of my friends, family and students know, I am an avid iPad adopter since its release April, 2010. With Apple’s release of the Retina-Display iPad Mini, I changed to it with 128GB of Storage, AT&T version, plus Logitech’s UltraThin Keyboard Cover, and an ACME MADE San Francisco rubberized thin slip-over protective case. This thin package actually fits into my trousers pocket.
