🍎 Apple addresses the 25 million Phablet Sales in 2014. iPhone 6 with a 5.7″ Display – Apple Formulating Large Display iPhone Plan. Samsung S4 Sales are Down 50% from Samsung own Projections, but Android Phablets sold 25 million units in the June, 2013 Quarter, more than twice what iPads sold in the same quarter. iPhone 6 with a 5.7" Display

🍎 According to Chinese blog GforGames, which cites industry sources in Taiwan in its report, the upcoming iPhone, known unofficially as the “iPhone 6″ will sport a Main Camera of at 10 megapixels, while boasting an improved Lens Aperture of f/1.8.

🍎 Apple iPhone and Camera NEWS

🍎 iPhone Focuses on Very Popular Picture-Taking and Movie-Making with their SmartPhones

🍎 Apple’s iPhone 6 Camera to have Super-Fast f1.8 Optics

🍎 iPhone 6 Camera to have 10MP Imager, a 25% increase in Image Resolution

🍎 iPhone 6 yo have a 4.8″ Display

🍎 iPhone 6 Air to have a 5.7″ Display

🍎 Simultaneous iPhone Releases

🍎 Apple Formulates Large Display iPhone Plan will channel on 25 million Phablet Sales.

🍎 iPhone Camera getting over 100% Boost in the Amount of Light. Increasing the Lens’ Aperture from f2.2 to f1.8 is a relatively Huge change in the amount of Light that strikes the Imager, an improvement of over 100% more light passing through the lens on its way to the Imager.

🍎 A Digital Camera coupled with a Lens that accepts light in the order of f1.8 or f1.4 would be considered at the Best-End of Light Transmitting ability.

🍎 Many analysts and critics of SmartPhones do not focus on the camera’s maximum aperture, as being a “big deal” one way or the other.

Increasing the aperture of your camera lens just One f-Stop like from f4.0 to f2.8 the lens will permit 100% more Light to pass through the lens at a f2.8 setting, than a lens whose maximum aperture is set at f4. Apple increasing the maximum aperture of their iPhone camera lens to f1.8 is really big news particularly in taking party shots in Low-Light settings.

iPhones are capturing more Pictures than any other Camera on Earth, including traditional Canon, Sony, and Nikon digital cameras, and any other Smart Phone according to recent reports.

🍎 iPhone Camera getting a 25% Boost in Resolution. Increasing the pixel count to 10MP is important as it represents a 25% increase in resolution.

🍎 For the “Crop Fanatics” in light of the three math examples below, with 10 MP, one can either print a full resolution 9×12″ print, or be able to Crop-Out 2.8 million pixels and still have enough image information remaining to print an excellent 8×10″ print.

🍎 How will these extra mega-pixels be best utilized. Most folks will perform two important tasks, trim a portion of the pixels, cropping, to either

(A) Straighten the image to the horizon

(B) Eliminate a peripheral portion of the image that is distracting.

🍎 How many pixels are needed for an Excellent 4×5″ glossy print. Lets do the math. Commercial printers, print at 300 pixels per inch. Each 1.0 square inch on the print contains 300×300 dots of image information which equals 90,000 pixels. A traditional 4×5″ print contains 20 square inches. Total pixels needed therefore is 20×90,000 which equals 1.8 million pixels.

🍎 How many pixels are needed for an Excellent 5×7″ glossy print. The math. Commercial printers print at 300 pixels per inch. Therefore each 1.0 square inch on the print uses 300×300 dots which equals 90,000 pixels. A traditional 5×7″ print contains 35 square inches. Total pixels needed therefore is 35×90,000 equals 3.15 million pixels. Remember the early digital cameras that had a 3.2MP Imager, this math is the reason, these cameras are capable of delivering beautiful 5×7″ prints, one of the most popular enlarging sizes.

🍎 How many pixels are needed for an Excellent 8×10″ glossy print. The math. Commercial printers uses 300×300 pixels per square inch, which equals 90,000 pixels. A traditional 8×10″ print contains 80 square inches. Total pixels needed therefore is 80×90,000 equals 7.2 million pixels. Remember, more recent digital cameras that had a 7.2MP Imagers, this math is one of the reasons, these cameras are capable of delivering beautiful 8×10″ prints, today one of the more popular enlarging sizes.

🍎 iPhone Camera Ultra Miniaturization. Even in these days of “Ultra Miniaturization” it would have been unimaginable for an auto-focus lens and camera combination, the size of a small green pea, would also sport a 10 million pixel Imager, and contain an auto focus lens with a maximum Aperture of f1.8

🍎 iPhone Camera with Image Stabilization. Having image stabilization makes for the Perfect Trifecta feature-set, in the Camera World, Super-Fast Lens Aperture, 10MP Camera Imager, and Image Stabilization. FYI, there are two common forms of image stabilization, Optical IS and Electronic IS.

🍎 Electronic Image Stabilization is an “anti-shake” method where the imager and buffer memory are linked to “shift” the focused image electronically in the opposite direction of the actual camera movement, in effort to “cancel-out” hand-held camera movement. This is effective for 2ΒΊ of movement, left-right, up-down or any combination.

🍎 Optical Image Stabilization is an “anti-shake” method where mechanical-servo-mechanisms, mechanically shift central optical elements, in the opposite direction to the movement of the camera, in effort to “cancel-out” the camera shake, typical of hand-held candid shots. This is effective for 3ΒΊ of movement, left-right, up-down or any combination.

🍎 What is an “aperture” ? Aperture is referred to the lens diaphragm-opening inside a camera-lens. The size of the diaphragm, the opening in a camera lens, REGULATES amount of light passing through onto the Imager inside the camera, when the shutter curtain in camera opens during an exposure.

🍎 The size of an aperture in a lens can either be a fixed or the most popular form in an adjustable type (like in an SLR camera). Aperture size is usually calibrated in f-numbers or f-stops. i.e. those little numbers engraved on the lens barrel like f22 (f/22),16 (f/16), f/11, f/8.0, f/5.6, f/4.0, f/2.8, f/2.0, f2.2, f/1.8, f1.4 etc. Each of this value represents one-times the amount of light either more or less in quantity. Meaning to say, f/16 will let in 100% more light than a diaphragm opening of f/22 and so forth; while on the other hand, an aperture of f/4.0 will let in 1X less light than that of f/2.8 setting.

🍎 Apple is Working its Supply-Line Formulating a beta-Phablet-Plan. Citing four sources, Reuters reports that Apple has delivered detailed plans for a 4.7" and a 5.7" iPhones, to its suppliers in Asia, presumably to produce beta-samples for Apple Engineers to test internally.

🍎 iPhone 6 specs are a Piping Hot commodity now. Its 2014 and Rumors from all over are coalescing around a configuration that’s all about MORE

✔ More Display Area

✔ More RAM Memory

✔ More Storage Space

✔ More Speed

✔ More Display Pixels

✔ More Low Noise Camera

✔ More Low-Light Camera

✔ More Flash Power

✔ More Image Stabilization

🍎 According to range of sources, including KDB Daewoo Securities, Apple will soon ship a pair of larger smartphone models.

🍎 While there will be an 4.8″ iPhone 6, which compares with earlier rumor-reports, Apple is also prepping a larger “phablet class” iPhone that will sport a 5.5″ display.

🍎 While Cupertino has been confronting pundit suggestions, analysts and idiots alike, for several years, it is the collective-wisdom, that Apple must deliver a phablet class iPhone in order to remain relevant in the high-end Smartphone marketplace.

🍎 Who am I to criticize the successes of Apple. However, its become fairly obvious that the market-place is Screaming for a Larger Display iPhone. Tens of Millions of “Phablets” have been sold by its competitors, totally unchallenged by Apple. Even the Apple Shareholders are Screaming at its Board of Directors for Management’s explanation for ignoring this seemingly obvious, yet natural extension of its iPhone line if iDevices.

🍎 With Apple “finally” acquiesced to market-place’s Demand for a more compact iPad, Apple released its iPad mini with rave reviews. Personally I waited for version 2 of the mini, wanting the high-resolution Retina Display and 128GB storage option.

🍎 I quickly sold my Standard sized iPad.v4 to Gazelle for $450, scraped together another $200, and am now totally pleased with the iPad-mini-retina coupled with Logitech’s $70 UltraThin keyboard Cover.

🍎 I now do almost everything on the iPad mini, having only turned on my 17″ HP laptop only once in the last 120 days to work on a Complex Excel Spreadsheet and to update the virus software.

🍎 With Apple being able to deliver a delightful iPad mini with its retina 7.9″ display, its not hard to image Apple splitting the difference from 7.9″ and the 4.0″ iPhone 5S to arrive at a beautiful 5.5″ Large retina Display iPhone. All the components of “technology” are already tested and operating in Apple’s tool-box.

🍎 iPhone 6 Specs: 4.8″ Display with high resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels dimension, 64-bit A8 Apple processor, 2 GB RAM Memory, Main Camera at 8.0 megapixel, Front Camera 2.3 megapixels, Battery set at 1800 mAh capacity, Storage capacities of 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB configurations.

🍎 You may know that the Front Facing Camera captures stills and HDTV Videos at over 1920 by 1080 pixels, this equates to 2.073 MP, the image resolution of your 1080p 60″ LED Flat Screen HDTV in your living room.

🍎 Those that think that 8MP is not enough, the highest quality 8″by10″ Commercial Color Prints, printing at 300dpi, requires 7.2MP. Apple’s Camera delivers 8.0MP more than enough for a stunning 8×10″ framed picture, including some minor cropping or straightening.

🍎 iPhone Phablet Specs: 5.5″ display with 2272 x 1280 pixels resolution, 64-bit A8 Apple processor, 2 GB RAM (actually a generous amount for Apple), Main Camera set at 8 megapixels, Front Facing Camera set at 2.3 megapixels, Battery, a hefty 2300 mAh liON Lithium-Polymer Battery needed to power the larger, higher pixel count display, and storage options of 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB configurations.

🍎 IDC Research has recently reported that in the recent quarter, June, 2013 Phablet Sales were a stunning 25.2 million units. Apple Tablet Sales were 12.2 Million units, Portable PC sales were 12.7 Million units, and iPhone Sales were 32 million units. And in the Asian markets Phablet sales increased by 100%.

🍎 Can Apple really ignore these stunning facts any longer. There are many folks apparently that cannot afford to buy a Smartphone and a Tablet. Therefore they are buying a portable device that combines the smartphone with the Tablet, hence PHABLET, not only in name but in practicality.

🍎 This is not “Rocket Science.” Take an LTE iPad mini, turn on cellular connectivity and you have a Large Phablet, probably too large at 7.9″ but thats all it would require. So lets make a Phablet of a more reasoned size. The internals are already engineered, certainly Apple can have their Display suppliers squeeze the iPad v5 into a Display of 5.7″ rework the container, and the battery, and viola, Apple could have a Large iPhone.

🍎 What would be the best Phablet Size for Apple to capture this Market Segment. Since there iPad mini is sized at 7.9″, say 8″ for simplicity, and their largest iPhone’s Display is presently 4.” Let’s split the difference of these two Displays, that would render a 6″ display. We have heard from an Asian Supplier that Apple has ordered a large quantity of Display samples of 4.7″ and 5.7″ for supposed prototype iPhone product testing.

🍎 iPhone 6, My preference. Personally, I would prefer the 5.7″ iPhone-6-maxi, and use the 4.7″ Screen as the new standard for the iPhone-6, and retain the 4″ Display for the iPhone-5S and the iPhone-5C as the “entry level” iPhone, for the Four Tiered iPhone lineup for 2014.

🍎 Can Apple Afford to delay the release iPhone 6 until September of 2014, the release of a 5.7″ iPhone? Hopefully Apple will attempt to trap their share of the 50 million Phablets that will have been sold from now until March, 2014. Can Apple loose the opportunity for their share of another 50 million units and delay the 5.7″ iPhone 6 initiative until September, 2014? This would be a shame. The iPhone 5C and an 5.7″ iPhone 6 would be the magic for Apple to capture a huge chunk of Market-Share.

🍎 iPhone large display is Music to My Ears for sure. Look at the excitement Apple created in November, 2012 with its Release of the iPad mini. Recall 53% of all US smart phone users are Apple iPhone adopters, and less than half that for Samsung Galaxy folks.

🍎 Similarly, in my humble opinion, when Apple releases a Large Display iPhone, there will likely be even more excitement than the new sales generated by the iPad mini. Why? There is a relatively large installed base of iPhones, some 500 million users, 4 times larger existing installed user base than the iPad community; Even a small portion of 500,000,000, represents many millions.

🍎 Example… if only 12% are seriously excited with the release of a Large-display iPhone, 12% of 500,000,000 is 60 Million units. Its better for Apple to trap these large-screen display folks, than have 5″ smart-phones cannibalized to Samsung.

🍎 My guess, when Apple delivers a Large Display iPhone, 40% will go for it. Another guess, Apple was surprised at the adoption-rate of the iPad mini, because Apple was so committed to believing the iPad had to be 9.7″ it ignored the market. Apple likewise has been ignoring the Market again with 5″ smart-phones. Hopefully, Apple will stop believing its own BS and listen to the Market’s Desire.

⏰ There is a large installed base of “Android” smart-phone folks that wish Apple had a 5-incher, and are looking for an excuse to get out of the Droid OS-Fragmentation headache. Surveys continue to indicate consistently for several years that about 22% of Android users Jump-Ship and adopt iPhones, when their contracts expire.

⏰ Samsung reported this morning, June 20, 2013, that it has lowered its sales projections of the Galaxy S4 by 50% of their new flagship smart phone. This newly released model the S4, was supposed to be Samsung’s 2013 “iPhone 5 Killer.”

⏰ Apparently after only 5 weeks of the availability of the Galaxy S4, the Android community and Galaxy 3S users are simply not upgrading from their own Galaxy users, nor from the other Vendors to the Galaxy S4. Its not hard to imagine, the Korean company, Samsung’s Stock has dropped significantly on its stock exchange.

⏰ Samsung has already had to cut expectations for their latest flagship, the Galaxy S4, it looks like Sammy had to lower estimates for device shipments once again, today. Originally, Samsung and their analysts predicted a lofty 10 million S4 units for April, and 12 million S4 units for May, 2013; This estimate has been dropped to about 6.5 million S4 predicted units in July.

🍎 Recall Apple sold over 5 Million iPhone 5 units in its first 3 day weekend, selling every one of the iPhones Apple had stock-piled for the iPhone5 release weekend. Annual iPhone sales are actually occuring at a rate of over 130 million for 2013. With the iPhone 5S anticipated for Sept, 2013, according to “analysts,” the iPhone sales rate may increase.

⏰ To perk sales back up, Samsung is reportedly planning an early retirement of the Galaxy S III. With the latest price-drops on the Galaxy S3, since the S4′s release; Apparently there is not enough innovation in the new S4, and the Android folks are defaulting to the less expensive S3, chopping into sales of Samsung’s latest flagship, which is not a good thing.

⏰ Taking away consumer choice isn’t generally a good thing for your customers; However, in this case, it’s a business move that Samsung has chosen. These events are definitely something to keep an eye on in the next few months.

🍎 If Apple follows through with these plans for a larger than 4″ iPhone display, this would be an significant change in Apple’s (unrealistic) position for iPhones with 5″ or larger Displays. We all know Apple says Nothing, Releases Nothing, No Specs, No Images, No Hints, No Trial Balloons, Nothing until Apple Decides to inform, and then Apple Tells Everyone with an Event.

🍎 Apple Secrets. Think about it, with a staff of 90,000 soles at Apple, add another 400,000 Asian fabricators, at FoxConn for example, add to this, Many Supply-Line sources, like the iPhone Camera Module and the Display fabricators, its quite a Security undertaking to Compel everyone to keep Apple’s Secrets non-Disclosed.

🍎 Once Apple delivered the iPad-mini, contrary to Apple’s (previously absurd) position that Only the 9.7" display was optimal – required for finger gestures, and that all other display sizes are inappropriate. Clearly, having delivered a 7.9" iPad-mini is very appropriate, very relevent, and may be out-selling the traditional iPad by a margin of say 3-to-2 ~ meaning, Three ipad-mini sales for every Two standard sized iPad sales.

🍎 Apple Knowing the history of the iPods, mini, nano, you name the flavors, its pretty easy to "Connect the Dots" that eventually the iPhone may have two or three footprints, several Display Sizes, particularly with the out-cry from Apple users who are routinely Complaining to Apple sales associates at Apple retail stores, all over the world, self included.

🍎 Apple bumped up its screen size to 4" diagonal with the iPhone 5, which launched September, 2012, and met with Rave Reviews and huge Sales, 5,000,000 units in iPhone 5 opening weekend. This 4″ display departed from the 3.5" display on all previous iPhone models, since the iPhone’s inception in mid-2007. But unlike its biggest rival, Samsung, the iPhone 5, was a 13mm increse in length only, no proportionate increase in width, as compared to the iPhone 4.

🍎 Last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that a larger screen could differentiate phones, but noted the company had to weigh the “trade offs” which would have to be evaluated, namely battery-life, weight, longevity of the screen, overall size.

⏰ Recall a very large number, some 96% of the Droid Users have Not updated to the newest version of JellyBean version 4.2 of Android’s OS; this creates a huge mess for everyone in the entire Droid user population, their App Developers, and all the Smart-Phone companies that are fabricating Droid devices. Making for an even bigger mess, is about 52% of the present-day Droid users remain at an Android OS-version that dates back several years.

🍎 My view, Delivering 4.7" and/or 5.7" iPhones, lets assume an increase in pixel count, to keep up the "retina display" of 325 dots per inch, more power is needed to drive the increased number of pixels, and the graphics-processor, plus more power would be need to illuminate the larger display, in brighter ambient lighting conditions, than an iPad generally requires.

🍎 Example, while walking down the street at high-noon, the iPhone rings, you look at the display, and answer the call. In bright out-door lighting, the iPhone Display must be bright. With an iPad, folks generally are not walking the streets reading their 7.9" iPad-minis. Accordingly, iPad displays are not illuminated with the same intensity as iPhone displays.

🍎 iPhone 6 with a 5.7" display, (2" inches shorter than the iPad-mini, or 1.7″ longer than the iPhone 4, diagonally) More Power will be needed to drive a 5.7" display, perhaps 60% to 75% more power, than what was needed to drive a 4" iPhone 5 display. A 5.7" iPhone 6 may need 50% more power and 50% more space to house the larger LiON Polymer battery. (All guess work with these figures). However, in theory, its all about Display Energy Efficiency, internal Electronics Energy Efficiency and the Energy Density for the newer more powerful Lithium Polymer battery technologies.

🍎 Being trained as a Chemist years ago, I recall that there is a very unique feature for Lithium Polymer batteries. The uniqueness, the physical shape of the battery does not have to be cylindrical or rectangular. The Polymer Battery may be literally “Moulded” to the exact Shape of a highly irregular-shape of the container of the iPhone’s interior, for example. This LiON Polymer irregular-shape-capability includes curved edges, convex, and concave shapes, dimples, bumps, depressions, and non-rectangular conditions. Presently, we see LiON Polymer batteries shaped into three-dimensional rectanglar containers, with many “sizes and capacities” to choose from. Product designers, choose an “industrial standard” battery capacity and dimension, and then builds the device to accommodate the chosen industry standard LiON battery.

🍎 Apple, in my humble opinion, may apply this very unique Moulding Capability of the LiON Polymer, to shape the Battery in a much more Precise and Contorted Shape to utilize Every Available cubic millimeter, that is not being occupied by the iPhone’s other internal components. This is a more expensive battery design. However, when Apple orders the fabrtication of hundreds of millions of these custom designed Batteries, this added engineering and battery cost, would be spread over millions of units, weighed against the iPhone’s incredible Need for More Power, as features and display sizes soak up increased Power.

🍎 Some analysts believe Apple may launch a larger display iPhone 6 sometime soon. Prehaps Apple will release the iPhone 6 in March, 2014 to spread out new product releases into other calendar quarters. However, expect Apple to remain with the current 4" display size for what is believed to be the iPhone 5S thought to launch September, 2013.

🍎 While the iPhone has been a solid favorite with Government and Business users, rivals such as Samsung and Microsoft (with Nokia) have been raising their game. The increasing popularity of so-called phablet style extra-large smartphones such as Samsung’s S4 has been a recent trend that Apple may want to capture a significant portion of this segment. Personal Opinion, if Apple delivers an iPhone with a 5" display it will be a huge success just as the iPad-mini in November, 2012.

🍎 According to Reuters, Apple will launch two new iPhone models later this year, including an up-market inPhone and a cheaper iPhone with plastic case in five or six colors with a $99 price-tag. A lower price-point may improve sales in Aisa, and give everyone a less expensive Apple "entry-point." Another analyst last week also claimed that Apple would launch a cheaper iPhone in five colors, claiming at least two of the new colors may include pink and blue.

🍎 Apple’s primary iPhone contractor, Foxconn, will assemble the higher-end iPhone, while Pegatron, which makes the iPad mini, will assemble the cheaper entry-level iPhone.

🍎 If Apple were to Release a Large Display iPhone, there may be even more excitement than the iPad mini generated, due to the large installed base of iPhones, some 500 million users, where even a small portion of 500,000,000, represents millions, that may be excited with a Large-display iPhone. This short clip is a very clever rendering of the iPhone 5.7:

Display iPhone versions. And according to Apple Patent filings, the New iPhone (be it version 6 or later) may be fitted with an Optical Image Stabilization module, which would be a First for a smart-phone.

Image stabilization would give the iPhone camera user several degrees, like 2° of camera movement, left, right, up, down, and any combination, where the image-stabilizer-unit locks the image in place, by "shifting" the lens-elements laterally in proportion to the user’s "shifting" of the camera.

Presently image stabilization is performed "electronically" within the imager’s pixels, which has the effect of marginally reducing the total image resolution to accommodate for stability factor. Canon was one of the first Camera companies to offer Image Stabilized lenses (IS Lenses) for the Single Lens Reflex 35mm cameras. Image Stabilization really works particularly for hand-held candid photography, certainly a huge advantage for iPhone photography, which is almost always hand-held.

As many of my friends, family and students know, I am an avid iPad adopter since its release April, 2010. With Apple’s release of the Retina-Display iPad Mini, (I sold my iPad 4 to Gazelle.com) applied the proceeds to purchase the "mini" with 128GB of Storage, AT&T connectivity, plus added Logitech’s UltraThin Keyboard Cover, and an ACME MADE San Francisco rubberized thin slip-over protective case. This thin package actually fits into my trousers pocket.
