Complementary therapy can be offered alongside standard treatment, with alternative medicine offered instead of conventional, evidence-based treatments.

πŸ’§Aromatherapists, who specialize in the practice of aromatherapy, utilize blends of therapeutic essential oils that can be issued through topical application, massage, inhalation or water immersion to stimulate a desired response. πŸ’§The use of essential oils for therapeutic, spiritual, hygienic and ritualistic purposes goes back to a number of ancient civilizations including the Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans who used them in cosmetics, perfumes and drugs. Oils are described by Dioscorides, along with beliefs of the time regarding their healing properties, in his De Materia Medica, written in the first century. Distilled essential oils have been employed as medicines since the invention of distillation in the eleventh century, when Avicenna isolated essential oils using steam distillation.

πŸ’§Lemongrass Oil boosts self esteem, confidence, hope and mental strength, and it uplifts spirits and fights depression. This can be very helpful to drive away depression due to failures in their career, personal life, insecurity, loneliness, stagnation, death in the family and many other reasons. This also relieves anxiety. As an antidepressant, lemongrass can be systematically administered to patients of acute depression who are undergoing rehabilitation after acute shock. Basically, take it with your tea and relax. Analgesic reduce pain and inflammation. Lemongrass Essential Oil helps relieve pain in muscles and joints, as well as toothaches and headaches resulting from viral infections like cough, cold, influenza, fever, and various poxes. It also helps cure general body pain resulting from strenuous activities and athletics.

πŸ’§Lavender Oil is an invaluable essential oil in both perfumery and aromatherapy. The therapeutic benefits of Lavender are varied and many. It is perhaps the most versatile essential oil, used for many conditions affecting the digestive, respiratory and nervous systems and in the treatment of muscular and joint pain. Last but not least, Lavender is highly esteemed for treating skin disorders as well as for use in skin care and cosmetics. It is one of the very few essential oils that can be used neat (undiluted) on the skin to treat burns, wounds and scars, etc. It is used in skin care and for keeping insects at bay as well as to ease their bites. Lavender is used in facial care, soaps, foot care, deodorants and powders for its aroma and therapeutic benefits.

πŸ’§Tea Tree Oil is one of only two essential oils (Lavender being the other) which is often used to combat the spread of airborne bacteria during illness, diffuse 8 drops of Tea Tree in an ultrasonic diffuser, or mix 20 drops with 200ml of spring water in a glass plant sprayer and spray directly into the air, shaking well before each use. The Tree Oil my be used “neat” on the skin in small amounts by applying one or two drops directly to spots, cuts, insect bites, stings, blisters and problems such as warts, verrucae, cold sores, shingles and Chickenpox lesions. During prolonged or debilitating illness blend 3 to 6 drops of Tea Tree Oil in 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil [as a carrier] for a stimulating massage. Use Tea Tree Oil, combined with Eucalyptus or Peppermint oils, in a ultrasonic diffuser for direct inhalation can be a very effective method of easing the airways during respiratory infections, catarrh, colds or flu. Add 5 drops to a diffuser, cover the head with a towel and inhale the vapors for several minutes. 5 drops added to a warm bath can help induce sweating to lower a fever during illness. To soothe troublesome feet add 3 to 5 drops of oil to a warm foot bath and soak the feet daily. Dry thoroughly with a clean towel.

πŸ’§Eucalyptus essential oil is obtained from fresh leaves of the tall, evergreen eucalyptus tree. The tree, scientifically classified as Eucalyptus Globulus is also known as fever tree, blue gum tree or stringy bark tree, depending on where it is located in the world. The health benefits of eucalyptus oil are well-known and wide ranging, and its properties include anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, and other medicinal qualities. Eucalyptus essential oil is colorless and has a distinctive taste and odor. Though eucalyptus essential oil has most of the properties of a typical volatile oil, it’s not very popular as an aromatherapy oil because little was known about it until recent centuries, rather than the more ancient aromatherapy substances. The numerous health benefits of eucalyptus oil have attracted the attention of the entire world, and it has stimulated a great deal of exploration into its usage in aromatherapy as well as in conventional medicine.

πŸ’§The health benefits of Cedarwood Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antiseborrhoeic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, tonic… Into addition as an astringent, diuretic, emenagogue, expectorant, insecticidal, sedative and fungicidal substance. Cedarwood is basically a plant native to cold climates and is normally found at high altitudes. The chief components of Cedarwood Essential Oil are Alpha Cedrene, Beta Cedrene, Cedrol, Widdrol, Thujopsene and a group of Sesquiterpenes, which contribute a great deal to its medicinal value and health benefits. Cedarwood Essential Oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation from the wood pieces of the Cedar Wood tree, which has the scientific name Juniperus Virginiana (also known as Cedrus Doedara, Cedrus Atlantica, and Cedrus Libani, depending on the regions where they are found) in other nomenclature systems. However, the complicated names of cedar wood essential oil do not affect the medicinal uses of the oil, of which there are many.

πŸ’§Ylang Ylang Oil is very aromatic and it is most effective use comes from inhalation or use in a diffuser. It is used in flavoring, most notable in bubble gum. Topically it is a gentle oil, and is often used in calming blends. Ylang Ylang is also considered effective in baths and massage. This can be very beneficial for those people who have lost interest in sex due to tremendous work load, stress, depression, the effects of pollution. The loss of libido or frigidity is a growing problem in modern life, but relying on natural essential oils like Ylang-ylang can be helpful with one’s sex drive. This oil is also very effective agent for lowering blood pressure. It has no adverse side effects on health, if taken in prescribed quantities. Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil is a health booster for the nervous system. It strengthens the nervous system and repairs any damage it may have suffered. Furthermore, it also reduces stress on the nerves and protects them from developing a number of nervous disorders. This oil sedates or calms nervous afflictions, stress, anger and anxiety, while inducing a relaxed feeling.

πŸ’§The concept of aromatherapy was first spoken of by a small number of European scientists and doctors, in about 1907. In 1937, the word first appeared in print in a French book on the subject: AromathΓ©rapie: Les Huiles Essentielles, Hormones VΓ©gΓ©tales by RenΓ©-Maurice GattefossΓ©, a chemist. An English version was published in 1993. In 1910, GattefossΓ© burned a hand very badly and later claimed he treated it effectively with lavender oil. A French surgeon, Jean Valnet, pioneered the medicinal uses of essential oils, which he used as antiseptics in the treatment of wounded soldiers during World War II.

πŸ’§ Essential Oils are highly concentrated they can irritate the skin when used in undiluted form. Therefore, they are normally diluted with a carrier oil for topical application, such as jojoba oil, olive oil, or coconut oil. Phototoxic reactions may occur with citrus peel oils such as lemon or lime. Also, many essential oils have chemical components that are sensitisers(meaning that they will, after a number of uses, cause reactions on the skin, and more so in the rest of the body). Some of the chemical allergies could even be caused by pesticides, if the original plants are cultivated. Some oils can be toxic to some domestic animals, with cats being particularly prone.

πŸ’§ Hormone specialist at the University of Cambridge claimed “… these oils can mimic estrogens” and “people should be careful about using these products.” The Aromatherapy Trade Council of the UK has issued a rebuttal. The Australian Tea Tree Association, a group that promotes the interests of Australian tea tree oil producers, exporters and manufacturers issued a letter that questioned the study and called on the New England Journal of Medicine for a retraction. The New England Journal of Medicine has so far not replied and has not retracted the study.

πŸ’§As with any bioactive substance, an essential oil that may be safe for the general public could still pose hazards for pregnant and lactating women. While some advocate the ingestion of essential oils for therapeutic purposes, licensed aromatherapy professionals do not recommend self-prescription due the highly toxic nature of some essential oils. Some very common oils like eucalyptus are extremely toxic when taken internally. Doses as low as one teaspoon have been reported to cause clinically significant symptoms and severe poisoning can occur after ingestion of 4 to 5 ml. A few reported cases of toxic reactions like liver damage and seizures have occurred after ingestion of sage, hyssop, thuja, and cedar. CAUTION: Accidental ingestion may happen when oils are not kept out of reach of children.

As friends, family and students know, I’m an avid and early adopter of iPad since its release April, 2010. When Apple released [November, 2015] the 12.9″ Retina-Display iPad PRO, (having sold a MacBook Pro to Gazelle.com) then purchased the 12.9″ iPad PRO configured with 128GB of Storage, 4GB memory, AT&T connectivity, plus Apple Pencil and Brydge Pro Keyboard Cover, and a DECODED natural leather slip-over protective folio.
