Although North American customers can not preorder an iPhone 5S, Apple has opted to allow people to reserve the iPhone 5S in China in order to better handle the frenzy of launch day.
🍎 In less than 24 hours, everything but the 16GB space gray iPhone 5S remains available. The gold iPhone5S sold out quickest of all. Within 2 hours of the iPhone 5S reservation system went live, the iPhone 5S sold out at the Sanlitun, Xidan Joy City, and Wangfujing Apple Stores, according to Sina Tech press.
🍎 Apple handed out iPhone 5S reservations in China to reduce scalping. Scalping is such a huge issue that even Genius Bar reservations are booked in bulk by dealers and sold at a premium on the black market.
🍎 Since Apple wasn’t offering iPhone 5S pre-orders, Apple in Cupertino is faced with limited supply scenario, is favored by scalpers, who simply compensate people to stand in line as long as it takes to buy up every last iPhone, then resell them at a higher rate on the streets later. I have witnessed this at the Boca Raton Apple store in Boca Raton; however Apple on launch day limits New iPhone sales to 2 iPhones per customer.
🍎 Apple’s China reservation system requires that every person reserving an iPhone have a unique Apple ID, government ID, and smartphone number. This procedure is designed to be hard to "game the system" to keep scalping under control.
🍎 As for the popularity of the Gold iPhone 5S, it is no surprise to me, as I wrote several weeks ago. Many people have said that the gold iPhone 5S would be a popular model in China; however, many bloggers and analysts didn’t believe the Gold version would sell well.
🍎 In Asia, and elsewhere in the World, GOLD is golden, even with iPhones; and the precious metal has been very popular in Asia, Egypt, Europe, and everywhere else, for thousands of years.
